The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has foiled an attempted kidnap in Kobi Village, Kpaduma III, rescuing two female victims after a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh in a statement on Tuesday, the incident occurred on Monday, September 15, 2025, at about 9:15 p.m. following a distress call reporting gunshots along Kobi Village Road.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, personally led the operation alongside senior officers.
Adeh said, “On sighting the police team, the assailants opened fire, using two female victims as human shields to escape. The Police team however, continued to engage them in a fierce chase, successfully rescuing the two female victims unhurt.”
The rescue came at a cost, however, as Adeh confirmed that “two local security from the community vigilante sustained gunshot injuries. They were immediately evacuated to the National Hospital, where one was confirmed dead by a medical doctor, while the other remains under medical care and is responding to treatment.”
In January, PUNCH Online reported how gunmen stormed the Grow Homes Estate in Chikakore, Kubwa, abducting residents after hours of sporadic gunfire. Security operatives later rescued one of the victims, but the attack left many residents shaken.
Beyond Kubwa, experts have noted that many abductions in Abuja’s satellite communities often go unreported, either out of fear of reprisals or limited faith in swift rescue operations.
A Punch investigation highlighted this troubling pattern, warning that the true scale of the problem may be undercounted.
