President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Nominated General Musa for Minister of Defence

General musa  nominated by president Tinubu for Minister of Defence
The news broke quietly at first—just a letter delivered to the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Yet, inside that letter was a decision that would shape Nigeria’s security landscape for years to come. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had chosen a new Minister of Defence. His nominee: General Christopher Gwabin Musa.
It had been only a day since the resignation of Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the President moved swiftly, his choice deliberate and confident. For Tinubu, General Musa was not just another officer. He was a seasoned soldier, a man tested in battle and admired across the armed forces.
General Musa’s story began far from the corridors of power. Born in Sokoto in 1967, he grew up among the sands and sun of the northwest, attending primary and secondary schools that nurtured his early discipline. In 1986, he stepped into the College of Advanced Studies in Zaria, and before the year ended, he walked through the gates of the Nigerian Defence Academy—young, determined, and unaware of how far his journey would take him.
By 1991, he emerged a Second Lieutenant, armed with a Bachelor of Science degree and the resolve to serve. Over the decades that followed, he carried that resolve through countless posts: from HQ 81 Division to the 73 Battalion, from policy desks to the front lines of Nigeria’s most demanding operations.
His leadership shone in the Lake Chad region, where he commanded Sector 3 of both Operation Lafiya Dole and the Multinational Joint Task Force. In 2021, he took command of Operation Hadin Kai, leading troops with a calm intensity that earned him deep respect. It was no surprise when he later rose to command the Infantry Corps—and even less of a surprise when President Tinubu appointed him Chief of Defence Staff in 2023.
And now, at 58, the call had come again.
In his letter to the Senate, President Tinubu spoke with clear conviction. He believed that General Musa’s experience, dedication, and steady hand were exactly what Nigeria needed to strengthen its defence framework.
As the country awaited the Senate’s confirmation, one thing seemed certain: a new chapter was unfolding—for General Musa, for the armed forces, and for the nation he had spent his life defending
